South Florida Media Coalition – February Meeting

ONA Parachute Training

Pulitzer Prize Winner Lane DeGregory to Speak at Miami-Dade College

Miami-Dade College’s Journalism Speaker Series continues November 20th at the Wolfson Campus. The featured speaker will be Pulitzer prize-winning features writer, Lane DeGregory. DeGregory of the St. Petersburg Times won the prize in 2009 for her series “The Girl in the Window.”



FSNE / AAJA / FPA Multimedia Workshop

The Florida Society of News Editors, in association with the Florida Press Association and the Asian American Journalists Association, will hold an all-day, multimedia skills workshop Saturday, Dec. 12 at the University of Miami School of Communication. The workshop is open to all print, video and digital journalists and educators who are interested in building their multimedia toolbox. There will be all day sessions and partial day seminars taught by recognized Florida experts in their fields.



SPJ Presents “Launching Your Own News Organization”

Renowned photojournalist Alexandra Avakian to speak at FIU

The Middle East Studies Program in FIU’s School of International and Public Affairs has invited renowned photojournalist Alexandra Avakian to speak on Nov. 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the MARC International Pavilion at Modesto A. Maidique Campus. Avakian will speak about her work in the Middle East and discuss her recently published book Windows of the Soul, in which she shares the challenges, insights and rewards of nearly two decades of photographing the lives of Muslims around the world.



FIU Journalism Project on HIV/AIDS to Air on WPBT/Channel 2

A 20-month project by Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication that produced innovative reports on HIV/AIDS in South Africa and South Florida will be featured in a WPBT/Channel 2 one-hour special titled “Tell Somebody: The New Face of HIV/AIDS.” The special will air on WPBT2 at 10 p.m. on October 15, National Latino AIDS Awareness Day.
