MULTIMEDIA REPORTER
Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $33,000-$45,000
Summary: The Healthy State Collaborative is a news project of public broadcasting stations WEDU, WGCU, WMFE, WMNF, WUFT and WUSF. The stations will create essential multimedia, multi-platform content on the subject of healthcare from both a policy and personal perspective. In addition to reporting and producing broadcast content for radio and television, the partner stations will create an interactive website and web modules that will distribute and curate content, and undertake community engagement activities through events, partnerships and social media.
A reporter for the Healthy State Collaborative will have a passion for the topic of health care, will have multimedia production and reporting skills, will be a team player in a highly collaborative project and will be responsive to intensive training in health care reporting and on-air presentation coaching.
Duties and Responsibilities: Reports and produces live and pre-recorded programming as assigned by the project executive editor, Contributes informational, educational and topical content to audio, video and online platforms, Maintains extensive contact with internal and external contacts. Possesses professional interviewing techniques and expertise in broadcast writing, knowledge of field recording equipment, knowledge of state laws regarding audio and video recording, Reports to an executive editor and work is performed under frequent supervision or with specific procedures and guidelines to follow. Duties are highly complex and varied, requiring significant independent action and judgment. This position is classified as essential and incumbents may be required to work on state holidays, during on-air membership campaigns and during times of emergency.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications and two years of experience related to journalism and/or communications; or a Master’s degree in the fields listed above. Four years of vocational/technical training and experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree. Two years of reporting experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Four years of experience as a multimedia reporter.
