General Scholarship

Image of ColumnThe Society of Professional Journalists South Florida Pro Chapter offers a general scholarship to a deserving journalism student each year. The amount of the scholarship is determined by need, with the minimum award set at $500. Full-time journalism students at South Florida universities or colleges are eligible. Financial need, academic performance, and quality of work for student or professional news media is considered.

The deadline to submit your application for this year’s general scholarship is April 15, 2008.

To apply, please complete the application form and submit it along with two (2) letters of recommendation, samples of your work, and a copy of your school transcript.

Awards will be announced in June.

Garth Reeves Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Each year, the Society of Professional Journalists South Florida Pro Chapter offers the Garth Reeves Jr. Memorial Scholarship to a minority student preparing for a news career. South Florida high school seniors, undergraduate students, and graduate students are eligible. The amount of the scholarship is determined by need, with the minimum award set at $500. Financial need, academic performance, and quality of work for student or professional news media is considered.

The deadline to submit your application for this year’s Garth Reeves Jr. Memorial Scholarship is April 15, 2008.

To apply, please complete the chapter’s general scholarship application form and submit it along with two (2) letters of recommendation, samples of your work, and a copy of your school transcript. Be sure to indicate your eligibility for the Garth Reeves Scholarship on the general application form.

Awards will be announced in June.
