SPJ’s South Florida Pro Chapter is pleased to announce the 14th annual Sunshine State Awards competition, open to all print, broadcast, and online journalists in the state of Florida. The competition recognizes quality journalism in the best tradition of our profession. Out-of-state journalists will judge all entries and may award first-, second-, and third-place honors in each category. Finalists will be notified in early April and winners will be announced at the Sunshine State Awards ceremony on Saturday, May 31 at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel.
This year, the panel of journalists judging our top award, the James Batten Award for Outstanding Public Service, includes Bob Edwards, host of XM Satellite Radio’s Bob Edwards Show and former anchor of National Public Radio’s Morning Edition; Adam Liptak, national legal correspondent for The New York Times; and Debra Adams Simmons, managing editor of The Plain Dealer.
The entry fee is $23 for SPJ members and $28 for non-members. The fee for Batten Award entries is $43.
