Rivalry night is here. The No. 3 Miami Hurricanes host Florida State tonight at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, according to Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports, which cited the Atlantic Coast Conference’s announcement. The Canes bring a 5-0 record into the Florida Cup, while the Seminoles arrive at 3-3 and missing a long list of players, per ESPN and Sports Illustrated.
What’s on the line tonight
Miami is 5-0 overall and 3-0 in ACC play, and the Hurricanes sit at No. 3 in both the AP and Coaches polls entering the game, ESPN reported. Florida State is 3-3 and 1-2 in the conference.
This one carries history, too. Yahoo Sports noted that Miami leads the all-time series 37-33 after 70 meetings and holds a two-game winning streak against the Seminoles dating to 2024. The most recent meeting went Miami’s way, 28-22, in Tallahassee last October.
Mario Cristobal has made no secret of how he feels about the matchup. “Ever since I grew up, this was always my favorite and the best rivalry in sports, in my opinion,” the Miami head coach said, as Sports Illustrated reported, citing the Joe Rose Show.
Across the sideline, Mike Norvell is leaning into the moment, even with his roster thinned out. “This will be a game that you remember forever,” the FSU head coach said, via Yahoo Sports.
Miami comes in off a bye week that followed a 41-13 win at Clemson on October 3. FSU is coming off a 20-44 loss at Louisville on October 9.
The Seminoles’ injury list keeps growing
Florida State’s availability situation got worse on Thursday. Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports, both via FSU Wire, reported that FSU downgraded true freshman linebacker Noah LaVallee from questionable to out on the second ACC availability report. LaVallee will miss his fourth straight game.
He has plenty of company. Sports Illustrated reported that FSU’s full out list includes running back Samuel Singleton Jr., wide receiver Devin Carter, linebackers Blake Nichelson, Izayia Williams, Daylen Green and LaVallee, and defensive backs Karson Hobbs, Jamari Howard and Jordan Crutchfield. That is four linebackers and three defensive backs sidelined for a night when the Seminoles need every body on defense.
Three Seminoles are listed as probable, per Sports Illustrated: defensive lineman Darryll Desir, defensive back Zae Thomas and offensive lineman Paul Bowling.
The depth chart took another hit off the field. Sports Illustrated, citing the Tallahassee Democrat, reported that FSU dismissed freshman defensive back Chuck Kennon, the program’s No. 1 signee in the 2026 recruiting class, for conduct detrimental to the program ahead of the Miami game.
Norvell has been candid about what his team still needs to prove. “Even in games where we played at a very high level, we still have yet to see the 60-minute execution,” he said, per Yahoo Sports.
There is also the road issue hanging over Tallahassee. Sports Illustrated reported that FSU’s road struggles are reportedly approaching three consecutive years, with the Seminoles not having won a road game since November 25, 2023.
Miami isn’t at full strength either
The Canes have their own absences, though the list is shorter. Yahoo Sports and CanesWarning reported that Miami’s out list includes wide receiver Joshua Moore, running back CharMar Brown, offensive lineman Max Buchanan, tight end Luka Gilbert, and defensive backs Ja’Boree Antoine and Romanas “OJ” Frederique Jr. No Miami players are listed as questionable or probable.
So it is a banged-up top-three team against a short-handed rival that has lost three of its last six. On paper, the edge is clear. In this series, paper has a way of getting shredded.
How to catch it
If you are heading to Miami Gardens, the game is at Hard Rock Stadium with a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. If you are staying home, ESPN has the broadcast, per the ACC’s scheduling announcement as reported by Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports.
For the Canes, a win would extend their series streak to three straight over the Seminoles and keep a perfect season rolling into the back half of October. For FSU, a win on the road against a No. 3 team would be the kind of result that changes the conversation around a 3-3 season in a hurry.
Either way, Saturday night in South Florida is about to get loud.
