The top-ranked prospect in the entire 2028 class is coming to Hard Rock Stadium this weekend, and he’s not coming alone. Five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, a Jacksonville product who sits at No. 1 overall in the 2028 class per the 247Sports Composite, is expected to be in the building when No. 3 Miami hosts Florida State on Saturday, The Miami Hurricane reported. He’s part of a recruiting guest list that stretches to roughly 80 high school prospects, so the sideline might be just as crowded as the stands.
The Canes are rolling out the welcome mat
Miami is expected to host approximately 80 high school football prospects for the FSU game, according to a visitor list published by CanesInSight and reported by The Miami Hurricane. That’s a lot of jerseys, a lot of handshakes and a lot of future football walking around Miami Gardens on a rivalry night.
Wright is the headliner. The five-star receiver out of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville is ranked the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class by the 247Sports Composite and remains uncommitted as of Friday. The Miami Hurricane reports he’s expected to visit for the FSU game on October 17.
He’s also bringing some serious company from up the road. Five-star edge rusher Asher Ghioto from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, ranked No. 5 nationally in the 2028 class per the 247Sports Composite, is also expected to attend, according to The Miami Hurricane. Two of the top five players in a single class, both from Jacksonville, both at the same game. Not bad for a Saturday.
The 2027 class is well represented too. The Miami Hurricane reports that five-stars Donte Wright, ranked No. 8 nationally, and Nick Lennear, ranked No. 12 nationally, are also expected to make the trip.
And here’s the part that’ll have Canes fans refreshing their feeds: On3 recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong predicted on Monday that Brysen Wright would commit to Miami, according to The Miami Hurricane. Nothing is official. Wright is still uncommitted. But a prediction from a national analyst, five days before the kid walks into Hard Rock for a rivalry game under the lights, is the kind of thing that gets a fan base talking.
Malachi Toney has his own news
While the recruits are coming to look at Miami, one of Miami’s own receivers just cashed in on being very, very good at football.
Sophomore wideout Malachi Toney has signed an NIL deal with Hellstar Sports, the brand announced in an Instagram post. “We are so proud to announce our first Hellstar Sports College Athlete NIL signing – Malachi Toney,” the caption read, as reported by Yahoo Sports and Athlon Sports, citing the Instagram post.
Toney carries a reported $2 million NIL valuation for the 2026 season, according to On3 Sports, as reported by Sports Illustrated and FanNation.
If you’ve followed Miami for even five minutes, you know why. Toney is a Fort Lauderdale native who played at American Heritage School in Plantation, so this is a local kid making local fans very happy. He reclassified from the 2026 recruiting class to enroll at Miami in 2025 as a 17-year-old freshman, then went out and led the nation in receptions with 109 catches. That set a Miami program record for catches by a freshman, and he was integral in the Hurricanes’ run to the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Year two has been more of the same. Through five games this season, Toney leads Miami in receptions, yards and touchdowns. So when the five-star receiver recruits in the stands on Saturday look down at the field and see who’s running routes for the Canes, they’ll be watching a pretty convincing sales pitch.
What’s at stake on Saturday
Miami comes into the week riding a little momentum without even playing. The Hurricanes moved up one spot to No. 3 in the AP Top 25 Poll released Sunday after a bye week, climbing from No. 4. A rivalry game against Florida State, in prime time, in front of the biggest recruiting crowd of the season, is a pretty good way to come back from a week off.
Here are the details you actually need:
The game is Saturday, October 17, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Kickoff is 7 p.m. ET, and ESPN has the broadcast. If you’re heading up the Turnpike or down from Broward, give yourself extra time. Rivalry night traffic in Miami Gardens is its own kind of experience.
What’s next
The scoreboard will settle Saturday’s business between Miami and Florida State. The recruiting business takes longer. Brysen Wright remains uncommitted, and while Wiltfong’s prediction points toward Coral Gables, the only thing that counts is the kid’s own announcement, whenever it comes.
For now, Canes fans get a top-three team, a hometown star with a new NIL deal, and the No. 1 recruit in the country watching it all unfold from the sideline. That’s a full Saturday in South Florida.
