Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) is Palm Beach County’s main commercial airport. It sits about 3 miles west of downtown West Palm Beach, just off I-95 at Southern Boulevard. It is the “West Palm airport” locals mean, and most travelers get from the curb to the gate faster here than at Fort Lauderdale or Miami.
Plan your visit
- Check your flight status in your airline’s app before leaving.
- Pick your parking area or book your rideshare.
- Take I-95 to exit 68 (Southern Blvd) and follow airport signs.
- Check in and drop bags on the upper departures level.
- Clear TSA at the checkpoint for your concourse.
- On return, collect bags on the lower level and meet your ride.
What you need
- Boarding pass in your airline app or printed
- REAL ID-compliant license or passport
- Passport for Canada and Bahamas flights
- Parking ticket or garage receipt
- Light jacket, since terminals run cold
PBI at a glance

The terminal is compact. Ticketing sits on the upper level, baggage claim and ground transportation on the lower level, and the parking garage is directly across the roadway. Most walks from check-in to gate take a few minutes.
The name change: PBI and President Donald J. Trump International Airport
This is an official source, so you can rely on the basics. State lawmakers approved renaming the airport President Donald J. Trump International Airport, and Palm Beach County’s airport pages have started using the new name. Some county materials and the flydjt branding also use the letters DJT.
Airline booking systems are a separate matter. Three-letter airport codes are controlled through the FAA and IATA, so many apps still list the airport as West Palm Beach, FL (PBI). If a search for one name returns nothing, try the other. Expect signs, maps and rideshare apps to change at different speeds. Check the county Department of Airports site for the current status of signage and codes.
Airlines and where you can fly
PBI is served by the major U.S. carriers plus several low-cost and Canadian airlines. The roster shifts with the snowbird season, so treat this table as a starting point.
| Airline type | Carriers you will typically find |
|---|---|
| Major U.S. | American, Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest |
| Low-cost | Frontier, Spirit, Breeze |
| Canada | Air Canada, WestJet, Porter |
Nonstops reach the Northeast corridor heavily, plus hubs like Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas and Denver. Some West Coast service runs only in winter. Confirm current nonstops on the airport’s flight and destination pages or your airline’s route map. A route that runs in February may disappear by June.
Parking at PBI

Your choices are the garage across from the terminal or the economy lot with a shuttle. The airport posts rates on its parking page, and they change, so check them before you go.
| Option | Best for | How you reach the terminal |
|---|---|---|
| Short-term garage | Pickups, trips under a day | Short walk across the roadway |
| Long-term garage | Trips of a few days | Short walk across the roadway |
| Economy lot | Week-plus trips, lowest daily rate | Free shuttle |
| Cell phone waiting lot | Waiting for an arriving passenger | Free; drive to the curb when called |
Local tip
In peak season, the garage can fill on Friday and Saturday mornings. Leave extra time for the economy shuttle if you are flying out on a winter weekend.
Taxis, rideshare and public transportation

PBI has no rail station. Your options from baggage claim are below.
| Option | Where to find it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi | Lower-level curb outside baggage claim | Metered fares; confirm with the dispatcher |
| Uber and Lyft | Marked rideshare pickup zone, lower level | Follow terminal signs, not the app pin |
| Rental cars | Counters in the parking garage | Walk across from baggage claim |
| Palm Tran Route 44 | Bus stop at the terminal | Links PBI, downtown and the West Palm Beach Tri-Rail station |
| Hotel shuttles | Courtesy area, lower level | Call your hotel on arrival |
Tri-Rail and Brightline both stop in downtown West Palm Beach, a short ride from the terminal. Brightline connects to Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, Miami and Orlando International. That makes it a realistic way to reach South Florida’s other airports without a car.
How far PBI is from the rest of South Florida
Drive times assume normal traffic. I-95 at rush hour can easily double them.
| Destination | Approx. distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown West Palm Beach | 3 miles | 10 minutes |
| Palm Beach island | 5 miles | 15 minutes |
| Jupiter | 20 miles | 30 minutes |
| Boca Raton | 25 miles | 35 minutes |
| Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Int’l (FLL) | 45 miles | 50-60 minutes |
| Miami International Airport (MIA) | 70 miles | 75-90 minutes |
PBI fares sometimes run higher than Fort Lauderdale’s. If you are staying in northern Palm Beach County, the saved driving time usually makes up the difference. If your trip centers on Miami, Miami International Airport is the better fit despite the longer lines.
Security, timing and passenger rights
Plan to arrive about 90 minutes before a domestic flight, and closer to two hours from Christmas through Easter. Snowbird traffic and spring break push lines well past their summer lengths. TSA PreCheck lanes operate here. TSA’s website and app show current checkpoint details.
Good to know
When the president is staying at Mar-a-Lago, motorcades can close Southern Blvd and parts of I-95 with little notice. Flight restrictions can also hit private planes. Check local news and leave extra time.
Federal rules give you real leverage when things go wrong. Under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s refund rule, airlines must give automatic cash refunds for canceled flights, or for significant delays you decline to fly. Significant means 3 or more hours domestic and 6 or more international. The DOT’s airline customer service dashboard explains what each carrier promises on meals and rebooking.
Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. If a storm is forecast, airlines typically post travel waivers days ahead. Our West Palm Beach weather guide covers which months bring the most afternoon storms and delays.
Lost and found, noise comments and other services
- Lost items: If you left something on the plane, contact your airline. If you lost it at a checkpoint, contact TSA. Items left in the terminal, garage or curb areas go to the Department of Airports Lost and Found. File a report through the airport website.
- Noise comments: The main runway points straight at Palm Beach and nearby neighborhoods, so noise is a constant local topic. The county takes aircraft noise comments through the noise section of its airport site.
- Art in the terminal: PBI rotates exhibitions from local artists. These are worth a look if you are early.
- Human trafficking awareness: You will see posted signs with hotline numbers. If something looks wrong, tell an airport employee or law enforcement officer.
When to get help
Call your airline for rebooking, bags and refunds. Call the Department of Airports for parking disputes, terminal lost and found, or accessibility help; find the current number on its website. File a DOT complaint online if an airline refuses a refund you are owed.
Nearby if you have time to kill
Downtown’s Clematis Street and the waterfront are about 10 minutes away, which helps on a long layover or before an evening flight. With half a day, Peanut Island is a 20-minute drive to the Riviera Beach marina plus a short water taxi. For neighborhoods, dining and where to stay, see our West Palm Beach guide.
