The Miami Dolphins are still chasing their first win of 2026, and the Jets may be short one big weapon when the two teams meet. New York running back Breece Hall is not expected to play in Week 7 because of a quadriceps injury, USA TODAY reported on October 25. For a 0-5 team that spent its bye week stewing over that record, that’s about as friendly as the injury report gets.
The Breece Hall situation
Hall’s status swung during the week. Early on, things sounded pretty sunny from the Jets’ side. Jets beat reporter Brian Costello said, according to Sports Illustrated: “Breece Hall is moving well at practice. I’d be optimistic about him playing. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow” did not deliver the happy ending Jets fans wanted. USA TODAY reported that Hall was unable to complete any full practice sessions during the week. He may attempt pregame warmups, the outlet reported, but he is not expected to play.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on the morning of October 25 that Hall is unlikely to play, though a pregame workout was possible.
The practice log tells the same story. Hall did not practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday and Friday. The Jets listed him as questionable on their final injury report.
Hall, who wears No. 20, has been out since Week 3, when he suffered a quad strain in a loss to the Detroit Lions. He has missed three straight games heading into this one.
So keep an eye on those pregame warmups. Unless something changes there, Miami’s defense likely gets a Hall-free afternoon.
Where the Dolphins stand
Let’s be honest, friends. It has been a rough start.
This is a brand-new era in Miami Gardens. The Dolphins are now led by general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, Sports Illustrated reported. This is their first season in charge, following the Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel regime that ended after the 2025 season.
The early returns have been painful. The Dolphins have been outscored 132-70 through five games, averaging just 14.0 points per game while allowing 26.4. That’s the kind of gap no amount of cafecito can fix.
There is a sliver of good news. Miami is coming off its bye week, according to Sports Illustrated. That means extra time to rest, regroup and look hard at the film before heading north.
Why this one feels like a must-win
Calling an October game “must-win” can sound dramatic. But when you’re 0-5, every week starts to feel that way, and this matchup looks like one of Miami’s better chances to finally put a W on the board.
The Jets aren’t exactly cruising either. New York entered Week 7 at 2-4, coming off a 26-19 road loss to the New England Patriots in Week 6. Now they’re likely without Hall for a fourth straight game.
That doesn’t make anything easy for the Dolphins. They still have to go on the road and score more than they have been. But a struggling opponent that’s missing a key piece of its backfield is the kind of opening a winless team has to take advantage of.
For Dolphins fans across South Florida, the ask is simple. Just one win. Get the monkey off the back, give the new regime something to build on, and give everybody at the Monday morning ventanita something to smile about.
